ZUCCHINIS, KANGAROOS, Home & Away and PAUL HESTER
Well, recording in my Rich's studio in Daylesford is coming along fine.
2 tracks nearly down and hopefully more to come. Its been fantastic recording in Daylesford and living at Richard's property. (well, actually Hepburn Springs...you know, Mt Franklin...where they get the spring water from?).
Though its so dry and still, its a beautiful walk to the studio every morning, rolling hills.....even running into an echina on the way. When we drove back from dinner the other day, kangaroos were hopping in the dirt drive way...my parents (and all my asian relatives) would pay to see this.........there are also insanely big zucchinis growing in the pleasance garden....
Well, i don't know how we scored this but PAUL HESTER (drummer from Crowded house)will be coming down next week to do his magic on the drums on the new tracks. This means i'm officially one degree of separation from Neil Finn...and officially in the crowded house circle.....and for those who know me, i should be pretty stoked and i am!
Thanks to all who sends me messages when my song's on Home and Away....i've realised that more people actually WATCH that show than i thought! I keep missing it cos there's only ABC tv in Daylesford...no 7 or 9 or 10!! So keep messaging me.
The album will probably take a few good months till you'll get something in your hand that looks pretty and sounds good, with a posed artificial picture of me on the front ...i'll keep you informed.
Its time to get myself a manager. ...they're hard to find.

MELBOURNE: Album in the making/Triple J/Richard Pleasance/Home & Away/ Melb Comedy Festival.
Wow. Its been a full on week since leaving darwin for melbourne 5 days ago.
Been in Darwin for a year now and all i could think of during the past year of being so far away from 'the musical hubs' is that i need to get down to Melbourne and record, record and record.
Monday - RRR 102.7 interview with Ryan Egan. He's one of the few people that still remind me that i was that girl who was on StarStruck (the tv show) all those years ago.
Tuesday - SYN FM interview with the Boys on THE HOIST (newman). Never knew RMIT studios was so funky. Had lots of fun.
Wednesday - Gig at the Rob Roy with Zoe &Liz and Petronella. This gig should have been called ' chicks with piano'. Thanks to the girls for lending me their Roland 600. The lovely Caroline Tran from Triple J was down at the gig and handed me her mobile phone to have a chat to Robbie Buck live on air on HOME and HOSED. It was the quickest interview i've ever done as i was in a rush to get on stage but i'm sure i didn't say anything dumb.
Thursday - Drove down to Daylesford (hot springs country 2 hrs from Melbourne). There i would find Richard (Pleasance) and his lovely wife Michelle and son Alfie. We went straight to work in the studio. I must admit, i was a little nervous about the next 4 weeks...working with Richard was the whole reason why i'm in melbourne now. It had been 2 years since we last worked together. Going to Darwin has changed my perspective as to where i'm going with my music. I'm no longer pressured by the big record companies, i'm listening to myself now, and i'm doing the music i want to do and ALWAYS wanted to do. Intelligent pop, raw instruments, natural and emphasis on acoustics and instrumentation.
Laid down one track today. Its working name is 'Timor Song'. I wrote it as i was watching a stunning tropical sunset while sitting on Dili Beach in East Timor.
Its been a long time since i've been so excited about whats about to come.
Friday - There's no mobile phone reception in Daylesford and as i was driving back into Melbourne on the western highway, all these text messages started beeping. ' I heard your song on Home and Away last night ! - says my flatmate, Nat ( a big fan of Home and Away)'. Apparently EASILY BROKEN was humming in the background of which i'm sure was a very emotional scene.
Friday night - The PONY 'Rockin'Melb Comedy Benefit Gig. First time i had the privilege of being on the same stage as my mate, Tim Reid. Couldn't resist but to perform SILLY THING together for the first time.
Still confused as to what record companies mean, whether i should do it all myself or not. I haven't got a manager or label. Have had record companies talk to me for the last 3 years but no one has yet to say something to me that makes me think ' yeah, this is what i want for my music'. I guess i'll know when i come out of the studio in 4 weeks time. We should have an album. Hopefully people will want to listen.

Gig at Bamboo Lounge 'Fiesta' in Darwin last night went down a treat. Always refreshing to play to candlelight and an strong attentive audience. Thanks to all who came and supported us!
Darwin Sessions: Just finished a week in the studio putting down 4 'live' tracks with Lukas Bendal (drums) and Jeremy Conlon (bass & engineer). The songs are: Feel the Chorus, Crazy, Say what you want, Slow Down. Its a quick session in the studio but the tracks sound raw and alive. Will be putting them up on the website soon. Stay tuned!
