DARWIN ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE - Monsoon Sessions gig in Studio 93.
Last night i did my very first gig with a grand piano. I've dreamed of playing on a grand at a gig for SO LONG. It wasn't a dodgy detuned upright out that back of a dingy pub that hasn't been played for years, it was a nice shiny black grand Kawai. It was a very rare and special night, a breathe of fresh air to finally play my new songs with Stephen Teakle, my new friend on the Accordian. Lukas and Jeremy were my rock as i led from the piano. Did a couple of songs with just me on piano and Lukas on drums.....a combination i never thought would work but it went down a treat with the 200 strong and attentive crowd.
I wrote a new song the night before called 'Threnody', inspired by Penderecki's 'Threnody for Hiroshima'. Something crazy in me told me to start off the set with a song that was 1 day old. I was obviously nervous and wasn't sure how the song was going to turn out...went on stage thinking that i'd leave it up to fate. I think they liked it.
